For more than three decades, I have worked as both a professional performer and educator across orchestral, chamber, Broadway, and commercial music environments. During that time I have taught more than 400 private students and coached thousands of young musicians through youth orchestras, chamber programs, and masterclasses.
My studio is designed for serious violin and viola students who are pursuing high levels of artistic development and are curious about the realities of professional life in music.
Teaching is not simply about transmitting technique. It is about helping students develop the artistic discipline, intellectual curiosity, and professional awareness required to build a meaningful life in music.
Teaching Philosophy
Students who study with me over several years work toward several interconnected goals:
• Musical excellence – developing refined technique, expressive depth, and stylistic understanding.
• Professional readiness – preparing for competitions, conservatory auditions, orchestral auditions, and the wide range of opportunities that exist in today’s musical profession.
• Versatility – understanding that modern musicians often work across genres and contexts, from classical solo repertoire to chamber music, orchestral playing, and commercial performance.
• Discipline and preparation – learning how thorough preparation and consistent work habits form the foundation of artistic success.
• Artistic independence – cultivating the ability to think critically, make musical decisions, and develop one’s own voice.
Equally important is the development of character. Music is ultimately a service profession. We contribute something meaningful to audiences, colleagues, and communities that is larger than ourselves. I encourage students to approach their work with integrity, humility, respect for their collaborators, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
